Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Extension for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often marked by cynicism, this show's earnestness struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its peculiarly charming style.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about watching this charming family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially help usher in that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to bask in the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
