Eric Adams Will Support Andrew Cuomo in NYC Mayor's Election

New York City Mayor Eric Adams revealed his plan to back Andrew Cuomo in the forthcoming mayoral race, despite months of public tension between the two Democratic figures.

A Surprising Reversal After Previous Accusations

Just last month, the mayor had publicly condemned Cuomo, labeling him a “deceptive figure and a liar” and accusing him of having “a history of marginalizing Black political contenders.” Yet, in a new development, Adams reversed course, announcing he now plans to appear with Cuomo in communities where he maintains significant backing.

“I think that it is imperative to really wake up the Black and brown communities that have experienced urban displacement on how important this election is,” the mayor commented.

Adams continued, “Residents have seen their rents increase in terms of neighborhood changes and they have been overlooked in those areas, and I’m going to go to those communities and talk directly with organizers and organizations and I will appear with the governor in those neighborhoods and get them involved.”

Race Dynamics and Recent Events

The mayoral contest has so far been shaped by the struggle between the former governor and progressive candidate his main rival, whose rise in the polls has made headlines globally and symbolized hopes for a revitalized progressive wing of the Democratic party.

During a latest candidate forum, both Mamdani and Republican nominee his conservative opponent declared they would reject the mayor's support if extended.

Months ago, the mayor had launched his bid for another term as an unaffiliated candidate after facing federal corruption charges which were later dropped in return for Adams’s cooperation with federal immigration raids across New York City.

At an unrelated press conference on Thursday, the mayor responded to reporters asking about the endorsement plan by stating, “I'm meeting Andrew this evening.”

This development came a day after the two politicians were spotted sitting courtside together at the New York Knicks’ first game at the famous arena, which occurred right after a contentious candidate debate.
