Fans Urge Custody of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of Ariana Grande are demanding that a individual who breached a fence and grabbed the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared video reveals the Australian man pushing past media personnel and charging at Grande while the cast made its way down a promenade accompanied by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly guided the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being detained", though legal records revealed that he was set to attend court on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
Record of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a performance. His Instagram feed features videos of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney show in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last December.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is evidently a punishable act," commented an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Fans Voice Worry Over the Star's Safety
Numerous supporters criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented one more message on Instagram.
A number of fans also faulted guards at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while others requested digital services to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Event Details
In videos circulating online, Grande looked surprised when she was approached by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Many of fans had gathered in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore mall, including some who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it began.
The motion picture, to be released on 21 November, is the sequel of a dual adaptation of the popular theatrical musical Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected bond between two contrasting witches.
The production itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a rosé sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were accompanied by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of last year in the UK, and scored 10 Oscar nominations, securing several for excellent wardrobe and production design.
