Man That Grabbed Ariana Grande during Red Carpet Event Barred from Singapore
An Australian man who vaulted across a fence and reached for celebrity Ariana Grande has been sent away and barred from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, 26, was handed a penalty to more than a week in prison for causing a public disturbance and has now been "banned from entering the country again," the country's border control stated to Singaporean press.
Wen pushed past photographers and approached aggressively the celebrity, who was present at the Asian debut for the film on the thirteenth of November. Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo wrestled him away from Grande.
He has a background of causing disturbances at events and celebrity events, including rushing the stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in the past June.
The event caused anger in Singapore, with numerous people saying he of causing further distress to the star.
The pop star has spoken of dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist bombing at her show in Manchester in several years ago resulted in the deaths of 22 people and injured hundreds.
Throughout the court proceedings, the authorities learned he had made efforts to breach on the movie's debut multiple times, according to regional reports.
He then made a second attempt to breach security. Protection personnel prevented him and held him in place.
The man subsequently shared video clips expressing gratitude to the star for allowing his presence and said he was "released."
Police took him into custody the next day and accused him with disorderly conduct, to which he confessed.
The Court Judge Christopher Goh was referenced by a news outlet as saying that he was looking for publicity, noting that he was wrong to assume he would not suffer any consequences.
The singer has not addressed the case.
The co-star spoke about the incident to NBC, stating that she "only aimed to ensure my friend was protected."
"I think he didn't mean us danger, but you can't predict with these incidents, and I sought to confirm that she was fine. That was my first instinct," she commented.
