Shock as Popular South African DJ Shot Dead in Johannesburg.
A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the metropolis of Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation grappling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was gunned down in the downtown area on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Authorities reported the forty-year-old presenter was accosted by three suspects, one of whom shot at him before running away.
The reason behind the incident is unknown and no one has been arrested are in custody, police said.
The Fatal Incident
Law enforcement said that Stock was attacked as he was leaving a premises close to the Carlton Centre.
He had been present for hours at the site managing the implementation of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by squatters, as per local media.
"It is alleged the victim was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," an official report stated.
Security camera video reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocks and wearing what looked like a guard's attire shooting on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ tried to run away after he was wounded but fell down a short distance away.
Officials noted that Stock had an gun that was not fired and it was not a robbery during the assault.
Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were found at the crime scene.
Appeal for Witnesses
Officials are asking eyewitnesses who may have seen the suspects to assist with the investigation.
"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the shooting, and officers have been tracking them to find their location," stated a police chief.
Outpouring of Grief
His sister, a close relative, expressed the relatives are devastated to come to terms with the loss.
"I am in shock. I am shattered," she stated.
"We know he was a representative for countless citizens. He was a fearless commentator about issues not many people were ready to tackle. This is a tremendous loss."
She urged the public to not sharing disturbing footage from the scene, explaining this was an extremely painful time, especially for Stock's three sons.
Life Beyond the Decks
Stock was the star of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that aired on a popular local digital satellite entertainment channel.
In addition to his work in broadcasting, Stock was involved in various business ventures, including protective services, supplying VIP protection services and managing safety for prestigious gatherings across South Africa.
He was also said to be engaged in property management and was involved in tenant removals.
Condolences Pour In
His murder has caused national trauma and led to an outpouring of tributes from his fans, the government and political parties.
A senior figure remarked he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's killing.
"He was forthright without fear or favour. He even spoke up against me and my policies as a public official. He was a shining model of who we should be," was his tribute.
A party figurehead commented the "brazen murder of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a trauma for all South Africans".
A media executive said that "Stock was not merely a face of a reality series. He was a gifted communicator, a dedicated enthusiast of music and a kind-hearted individual who brought joy and energy to every performance. His artistic passion left an profound impact."
In a statement, the broadcaster he worked for said Stock was known for his presence, kindness and sharp wit, adding that his memory "will live on".

South Africa, the African economic powerhouse, has one of the globally elevated murder rates, fuelled by property crime and syndicate wars, with some over sixty individuals murdered daily between April and September, as per police data.
