The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh season, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-episode season created by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The last season concluded in recent years with a finale that drew in over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to tackle misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a offender.
Yet, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans watch the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh installment."
He added: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor described appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
The drama launched in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Stephen Graham.
The BBC haven't revealed when the new season will hit screens.
The conclusion of series six drew the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and the creative team said at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
However, the network announced on this week that a new season is now in development.
