He remarked, "We can already see that Moscow is scrambling to restart dialogue as soon as it hears about cruise missiles." This statement referred to earlier musings about supplying advanced missiles to the Ukrainian military.

Political Developments and Global Responses

An ex- US state department official, a foreign policy expert, commented, "The Russian leader is trying to derail the progress toward increased pressure on the Kremlin." He added, "The outcome will become clear on Friday, but the likelihood of moving toward a truce by pushing Moscow to get serious seem to have decreased."

This situation came after Trump had in recent days been strengthening his language toward Russia until the recent conversation with the Russian president, which the Russian government characterized as "highly open and trustful."

European Fuel Sanctions and Economic Impact

EU authorities have established a requirement for fuel suppliers into the European Union to prove their fuels are not sourced from Russian crude, as stated in a document released on Thursday. This step is included in the European Union's forthcoming ban on purchases of refined products made from Russian crude, which forms part of its latest restrictive measures against Russia over its war in Ukraine.

Market experts observed that trading activity appeared to be factoring in the possible reduction of India's purchases of Russian crude. Several Indian refiners are getting ready to cut Russian oil imports, with expectations of a gradual decrease, according to insiders familiar with the matter.

"This is a favorable turn for the oil market as it would remove a big customer of Russian crude," commented a market analyst, noting that oil prices were stable on Thursday.

Military Situation and Infrastructure Attacks

A massive Russian unmanned aircraft and rocket attack targeted gas facilities in eastern Ukraine on the same day, resulting in outages in eight areas. Ukrainian officials reported that Russian forces deployed hundreds of drones and many of projectiles, along with glide bombs.

"During this fall, the Russian forces use every single day to strike at our energy infrastructure," said Volodymyr Zelenskyy, adding that strikes affected the areas of Chernihiv, eastern Ukraine, Poltava, Sumy and Vinnytsia.

Kallas announced a "plan" to get ready for potential security challenges by the end of the decade, including a novel anti-drone system to be completely functional by the 2027 deadline.

This initiative, called the "European drone defence initiative," is expected to begin working initially by the end of 2026 and be fully functioning by the following year. Brussels aims to obtain the support of EU leaders at a summit next week.
